In 1995 Stoneking/von Storch Architects designed a 8,700 square
foot microbrewery/restaurant located within historically significant
Postal Square
next to Union Station in Washington DC The historic building
and existing tenants presented many design challenges. The National
Postal Museum's multi-million dollar stamp collection is located
directly beneath the restaurant. The brewery was placed on a
new mezzanine above the show kitchen so that both elements are
prominently displayed. Additional dining seating was accommodated
by extending the mezzanine along the entire length of the space.
The new mezzanine is supported by steel trusses attached to
the existing pilasters. |
