Comdial Corporation is an international supplier/manufacturer of telephone equipment and telephony software based in Charlottesville, Virginia. Their 500,000 square foot facility houses manufacturing, executive offices, outside sales, training, and human resources and marketing. Stoneking/von Storch Architects was retained to design their new multimedia presentation facility. With Backstage, Inc. as consultant, S/vS provided full interior design, architectural and multimedia services. The result was a new 100 seat auditorium with state of the art technical capabilities within a pleasant, professional setting. The new center offers rear screen projection controlled via a computer system that can be either operated from the podium or via a handheld remote. Video, slides, computer presentations and three dimensional projection are all handled through the integrated package. Preset controls coordinate lighting for a variety of events, from lectures to training sessions. Furniture may be reconfigured to house over one hundred in auditorium seating and up to 58 in a training configuration. Each seat is provided tel/data and power service via room distributed systems and wire management tables. Additional amenities include, distributed sound, concealed speakers, audience microphones, hearing assistance, portable modular stage, acoustical treatment, kitchenette and preassembly space.
