Stoneking/von Storch
worked with the Jefferson Area Board for Aging from project
conception through site selection, final programming, budgeting,
design, documentation, and construction observation. The 20,000
square foot facility is home to administrative offices for a
regional outreach group, a 60 person adult-day care facility,
an 8 bed respite care center, geriatric rehabilitative/mediacal
clinics and a Montessori school. Locating these services in
one facility furthers the client's outreach mission but presented
a design challenge. S/vS created a building with individual
exp ressions for each component within a unified scheme. One
is free to enter the facility through a primary entrance or
visit one of the elements directly. The design image is intended
to obsucure the institutional aspects of the facility, providing
instead, a dignified and professional setting that is still
warm and user friendly. Understanding and responding to all
these user needs while meeting design goals within budget is
a goal that was successfully achieved. The final building cost
was within two percent of the budget established two years previously. |
